Johnson Mathers Nursing Home

Johnson Mathers Nursing Home was opened in 1965, named for Mr. Hugh Johnson and Dr. C.W. Mathers, a long time champion of health care for Nicholas County.  The original Nursing Home had 26 personal care beds and 24 nursing care beds.  Over the years, the bed component of the Nursing Home changed with licensing and regulation changes and the needs of the community.  In March, 1985, Johnson Mathers Nursing Home became the first Nursing Home in Kentucky to have beds licensed for dual levels of care.

In 1969, the Nicholas County and Johnson Mathers Nursing Home were consolidated into one organization with one management team, even though the two facilities were located on opposite ends of the town.  In November, 1976, the citizens of Nicholas County voted for a general obligation revenue bond to build a new hospital adjacent to the nursing home.  On June 5, 1979, the two facilities became one.  The corporate name had been changed to Johnson Mathers Health Care, Inc., in 1977.

Johnson Mathers Health Care, Inc., has continued to change in response to the needs of the community.  Our nursing home currently has 104 Nursing Facility beds and is accredited by the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.  Individuals with any quality of care or safety concerns should notify the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations at telephone number (630) 792-5000, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday, or write:  Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, One Renaissance Boulevard, Oakbrook, IL  60181.

Although Johnson Mathers Health Care has changed over the years in response to the needs of the community, some things will never change.  Our dedication is to the stakeholders of this not-for-profit organization and our mission to strive to provide quality care that exceeds the personal expectations of those we serve and endeavor to enhance the health and well being of the communities we serve.

Many of JMHC employees have been with our organization for many years.  "Our Family Caring for Your Family" is not just a phrase, but is taken very seriously at our facility.  The total years of nursing experience available at JMHC validates the professional skills and technical abilities of our nursing staff.

A variety of activities are available to residents of our nursing home.  Bingo, Bowling and Music top the list of favorites.  Bingo is played each Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.; Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and the first and second Saturday at 1:30 p.m.  Our residents bowl every Tuesday and Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.  Music is held every Thursday at 1:30 p.m., when various music groups from the community come to entertain residents.  Other groups come in the evening to entertain and visit, also.  And many other activities are enjoyed by residents.  Contact Sharon Beckett, sbeckett@johnsonmathers.org or Sueann Morgan, smorgan@johnsonmathers.org for more information concerning scheduled activities.
